LYNDEL QUICK

STUDIO DIRECTOR & TEACHER: Lyndel is passionate about sharing the benefits of an embodied movement practice. She established The Loft over 15 years ago and  encourages her students to be deeply present, to explore their innate movement capacity and to trust in themselves. Her classes incorporate a creative flow of movement sequences and emphasise strong anatomical foundations, energetic alignment and creating space in the body through release techniques. Lyndel has an extensive background in dance, training professionally in technique and movement improvisation. She is the lead trainer and course director for The Loft 50hr Barre Teacher Training program. Lyndel completed the Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teaching (350 hours) with The Australian Yoga Academy in 2015 and holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Teaching from Deakin University, majoring in Dance, Theatre and Education. She is currently completing a 12 week Smart Body, Smart Mind course with Irene Lyon, focussing on nervous system regulation, trauma, feldenkrais and somatic experiencing. Lyndel believes in the natural intelligence of the human body and movement as a catalyst for healing and transformation. She teaches with humour, enthusiasm, dedication and love.

 

ALICE ROSSI

TEACHER: Alice began early ballet training in Italy at the age of six. At the Professional School of Ballet in Padua, she learnt from the best ballet and contemporary dance teachers in Europe. Alice studied ballet history, music, pointe, technique, choreography and folkloristic dance during the different workshops and conferences she took part in. Alice learnt the Italian method, Cecchetti, in combination with the Russian method Vaganova. Her love at first sight for ballet brought Alice to discover the fabulous world of contemporary dance. Dance is a form of art that allows us to express our inner beauty throughout our body language. After travelling, working and sailing around the world, Alice found her happy place in Geelong, where she completed her 200 hours Yukti Yoga Teacher Training at Pilates and Yoga Styles and started teaching with determination and compassion. She has since completed The Loft 50hr Barre Teacher Training course. At The Loft, she has the chance to combine her greatest passions, dance and yoga, in a unique, welcoming place for teaching and learning.

 

SIMONE FITZGERALD

TEACHER: Simone started practising yoga over 17  years ago as a way to deal with life’s many challenges. She completed her first Yoga teacher training in 2014 with My Health Yoga Level 1 (350hrs), she then went on to further her studies in the Jivamukti method in NY 2015 studying directly with David Life and Sharon Gannon (300hrs), and has recently completed her Level 2 Training and Yin with My Health Yoga (200hrs) in 2017, 2018. She is also about to embark on Trauma Yoga Training and will forever be a humble student of the yoga method and philosophy. Simone’s classes are intuitive, fun and grounding, leaving you with the feeling that anything is possible when you step off your mat.

 

 SANDRA CLACK

TEACHER: Sandra is one of the most highly qualified teachers   as well as a senior examiner for Cecchetti Ballet Australia. She also proudly holds the Enrico Cecchetti Diploma. She has a passion for teaching and has successfully run her own ballet school since 1980 of which the first five years were spent in Hamilton before moving to Geelong in 1985. Many students have gone onto full time dance and are currently working within the industry both in Australia and Overseas.
She is one of five Cecchetti Grade Panel members who choreographed new syllabi from Pre Primary to Grades 6 as well as Dance Spectrum One & Two. These new syllabi are being used throughout Australia as well as overseas. Sandra is looking forward to joining The Loft team and sharing her love of Dance with the students and team.

 

       EMILY SHOESMITH

TEACHER: Emily Shoesmith graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in 2016. Here she had the opportunity to work with established choreographers such as Stephanie Lake, Lee Serle, Mariaa Randall, Sandra Parker and Rheannan Port. Prior to this she received an Advanced Diploma of Dance from the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet as well as completing a Certificate in Classical Ballet Teaching. Since graduating from VCA she has worked as an independent artist and teacher. Emily has taught at various dance schools across VIC and NSW as well as adult classes at The Space Dance & Arts centre in Prahran. Her aim is to facilitate a positive environment to encourage all participants to listen to and get to know their moving body, to remember why they love to dance and to appreciate body/mind/soul for the amazing things they do!

 

SarahSARAH MCDONALD

TEACHER: Sarah began dancing at the age of 5 and completed her ballet training here in Geelong. In 2014 she was invited to take part in Expressions Ballet Academy’s Vocational Training Program, where she was taught by teachers of the highest calibre. It was in this year that she achieved distinction in her RAD Grade 8 exam and she discovered her passion for teaching ballet at the age of 16. She has continued to teach Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz at a number of local dance studios. Sarah completed VCE and VET Dance, achieving the highest study score in the Geelong area and was invited to perform her technique solo at Top Class at The Melbourne Recital Centre in 2014. After finishing Year 12, Sarah auditioned and was successful in many full time dance auditions however decided to pursue a career in nursing. Through her studies, Sarah has increased her understanding of the body’s anatomy and physiology. This understanding is beneficial for teaching ballet technique which focuses heavily on the alignment of the body to perform safe movement. Sarah loves the way that dance weaves together artistry and athleticism in one unique tapestry and she is committed to sharing this passion with others.

 

 

DANNII PETROVSKI

TEACHER: Dannii began his training at an early age back in Geelong and quickly made his way to Melbourne and Sydney training with some of Australia’s finest institutions and choreographers including The Victorian College of the Arts, Barbara Lynch, Dulcie Lee, Barbara Warren Smith, Tony Bartuccio – finishing his training at The National Theatre Ballet School under the direction of Marilyn Jones and Joanne Adderley.
Upon completing his training, Dannii headed overseas to Japan and America performing in countless shows, Cabarets, Theme parks and Cruise ships.

Upon his return to Melbourne, Danni concentrated on the commercial and corporate dance scene performing in productions for Opera Australia, The Logies and Crown Casino.
In the last 8 years, he has established himself as a successful and sought after choreographer and creative director with his company Fame Agenda. His clients include Loreal Fashion Festival, Crown Casino, Westfield, Foxtel, and Em Rusciano to name a few. Dannii is excited to return to his hometown to teach Jazz classes at The Loft.

 

RENEE MCKAY

TEACHER: Renee is incredibly passionate in teaching others how to nourish, flourish and be the powerhouse that they came here to be.  She embodies all things health and wellness and brings such creative and playful energy with her. Renee trained in jazz and funk dance growing up and later completed VCE Dance. Renee has developed programs and taught weekly dance classes for local children and young adults with down syndrome at Emotion 21. Renee works for active wear company Lululemon and is a huge advocate for movement, health and wellbeing.

 

 

 

 

Jennifer BackwellJENNIFER BACKWELL

TEACHER: Jen has been teaching movement classes at The Loft for the last 3 years and is passionate about art, dance, yoga, mediation and embodiment practices.

She recently completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with Linda Newman at PY Styles. With an interest in the gentle side of yoga, Jen has also expanded her training into Trauma Informed, Yin and Inner Cor 60+ and Gorgeous Yoga.

Jen has enjoyed a long involvement in the dance industry, originally training in jazz ballet. She has been dancing and performing for over two decades with numerous local dance schools and organisations and continues to teach the popular 80s & 90’s Retro Workout class at The Loft each week. An optimistic and caring person, Jen is renowned for her calming influence. She believes in the power of creativity as a path to wellbeing.

 

SINDI RENEA

STUDIO ASSISTANT: Sindi started as an absolute beginner student at The Loft in 2016 and has floated back and fourth to classes as time has permitted ever since. She loved the welcoming and encouraging atmosphere from the first time she walked in the door.  Ballet and dance was a love from her childhood however circumstances and self consciousness prevented her from learning most of her life. In 2017 whilst sharing her story of beginning dance as an adult, Sindi was chosen as one of the first VicHealth ThisGirlCan ambassadors, encouraging other Victorian woman to get out and have a go in whatever activity they choose and not letting themselves be held back. She is happy to be part of the team and help create a safe and comfortable environment for all to learn in and explore movement.

 

 

JANE ACOPIAN

STUDIO MANAGER: Jane joined The Loft as a student in 2014. She started taking classes as way to get back in touch with the strength, stamina and flexibility she missed, never realising that magic of movement had something else in store for her – a complete reinvigoration of the heart and mind too.  The community at The Loft is something she cherishes and believes in wholeheartedly, so much so she put her hand up to assist and has been a part of the team since 2015. Using her creative skills and keen aptitude for organisation she works with the team to ensure that everything in and out of the studio runs smoothly.
