Frequently Asked Questions

No, The Loft welcomes anyone and everyone! We are an inclusive space for all humans and a safe space for the LGBTQ community.

Absolutely! You can enrol at classes in Geelong or Inverleigh, or both! (please note that in 2023 we are not offering classes in Inverleigh)

We recommend arriving 5 minutes before your class starts to ensure ample time to go to the bathroom, and you may want to factor in extra time to find a park without any stress.

If you arrive after warm up, (more than 5 mins) you won’t be able to join the class, as it poses a safety risk.

Please wear comfortable clothing that feels good and that you can move freely in. Leggings, t-shirts, trackies or singlets will do the trick.

Ballet students might like to wear more traditional dance attire such as leotards, ballet skirts and wrap tops as well as ballet slippers. These can be purchased at the local dance store.

Contemporary, Yoga, Pilates and Barre classes can be done in bare feet and/or socks.
For Jazz and Hip Hop, please wear supportive shoes like runners.

Please bring along your own water bottle and yoga mat. Also, a blanket for relaxation during yoga. Please use pigeonholes for personal belongings inside the studio. We recommend that you leave valuables at home as we can’t take responsibility for any missing items. Please ensure mobile phones are on silent.

Everybody’s got to start somewhere, and we absolutely love our beginners! No matter how unfit, inflexible or uncoordinated you may be, you’re welcome here, and our team will support you to participate in class at a level that suits you. If you need to rest during class, please do! We encourage you to listen to your body and do what feels best for you.

Choose the level that suits you best to begin with, you can always switch to a different level later.

Absolute Beginner – I’ve never danced before!

Beginner – I did some dance when I was kid and through my teens, but that’s about it.

Inter/Adv – I’ve got plenty of experience and feeling up for a challenge.

40+ Mature Dancer – I’m over 40, it’s been a while and I’d like to take it slow and steady.

Congratulations! If you’ve had an extensive and dedicated dance practice, continuing your classes will probably be fine, but please discuss this with us prior to enrolling and ensure you’ve been cleared for exercise with your GP.  Not all of our classes are suitable for pregnancy.

There’s plenty of street parking at both studios, however the Newtown studio can get very busy on the weekends. There is a large carpark behind the mill, just a 2 min walk away. We recommend this during daytime hours only. Do make sure you check signs for any restrictions too.

Yes, please book on our website! This way, you know your spot in the class is secure, and it also allows us to notify you if there are any changes or cancellations. We offer term-based bookings only (usually 10 week blocks) and do not offer casual or drop in classes.

Trial classes are also available for new students, $25 each. This is a great option if you’re new to the studio and want to get a feel for things.

We don’t want you to miss out, so we generously offer 1-2 make up classes per term. Make ups must be taken within the same term and cannot be carried over to the next term. Simply choose a suitable alterative class from our timetable and contact our studio director to book it in!
